Jeff Murphy paints in the style of the Tonal Masters with fresh vigorous brush strokes and exquisite tones of fresh colour or muted shades. With soft lost edges Jeff aims to capture a romance in his still life and floral studies with a veil of soft light. His paintings have been described as though you are looking through wet glass.
Jeff began his career at the age of 27 at Sherbrooke Art Society under the tutorage of Glenda Wise; though like many artists he always loved to draw and paint as a child. His first commissions were from school friends where he would draw pictures of horses that he would sell for 50 cents.
Jeff’s keen fondness of flowers and gardening comes through in his work today as he expertly depicts flowers in his paintings. From simple floral studies to much larger works, with his keen eye for tone and detail Jeff captures the ephemeral beauty of his subjects turning everyday objects into things of beauty.
Jeff is currently one of Sherbrooke Art Societies tutors where he teaches the traditional method from the Meldrum Tonal School of Painters.
Jeff is available for group demonstrations and talks as well as commissions for portraits or floral work.
