Painting from the heart …
Growing up in the “bush” I developed a love for the Australian Landscape that continues to influence my art.
From an early age I was always drawing or painting. Working in printing and graphic design, my life was always busy, leaving little time for serious painting! However during this period I continued to develop my art with personal study and private tuition.
Early painting skills and tonal oil painting were studied with Max Casey. Now retired, I have more “spare time” to indulge and develop a passion for watercolours after attending classes with Malcolm Beattie and later workshops with Robert Wade and Ross Paterson. At Sherbrooke, Stuart Benson has guided my journey to explore other mediums and develop new horizons.
Since 2001 I have been a regular exhibitor at many local art shows and the recipient of many awards including “best watercolour”. In 2008 I was the winner of the Sherbrooke Annual Hans Heyson Award and also winner of the Annual Jack Montgomery Award in 2009. Inspired by images of light and colour I am always exploring new subjects, but old farm sheds, gum trees and goldfield relics attract me like a magnet and I will continue to share these discoveries through the magic of watercolour! To record my vision of the landscape in a way that others may continue to share that enjoyment is my ultimate reward.
